In addiction & recovery, what does it mean to have hope? Presenter Alfred Clapp says: "I went from being alone to having relationships with other addicts and with those in the world around me. I was no longer afraid. Each day I make a choice: Do I wish to be alone, or do I wish to be a part of the world bigger than my total self-centeredness. You either are me, know me, or your life has been affected by me without your permission. Your love may be the only thing that will keep me alive!”

Bio: Alfred is son and a brother. He became an addict. He found recovery and became a husband, a foster parent and a father.

I delayed watching the video until I found a suitable time and place because I knew that I would cry :) Thank you for sharing your story. It was great to see you and your wonderful kids again, too! I wish we could spend more time with you.

That was a very powerful speech. What shook me was your metaphor with the 'Life Book' - something which I could completely relate to growing up and which had its toll on me as a teenager. Thank you for reassuring me that a person can always connect with the world if he or she makes the first step.
