Once a year the entire island of Bali's goes silent for Nyepi, Bali's silent day. In the Balinese calendar, this marks the start of the new years. But Nyepi isn't all about silence, there is also Melasti and Pengrupukan before Nyepi, which are polar opposite. Come along as I show you my experience with this holiday and explain the history and meaning behind it.

We planned our next Bali trip so we arrive 8 days before Nyepi, ensuring we get to participate in as many of the pre-Nyepi Day ceremonies as we can. Done the same in the past, it's a most exciting and interesting time to be in Bali, highly recommend it.

I didn't know about Nyepi until today and I arrive in Bali a day before it. I'm actually excited to see it and take the time to self reflect and empty my mind. Thank you for the primer!

Awesome video, super informative and amazingly put together. I unintentionally booked a trip to Bali this year during Nyepi so this was great to see a bit about what to expect. Keep up the great work - love it! 🤩

Ryan, I chanced on your video in order to get your perspective on Nyepi. Well done and greatly appreciated. I will be spending 4-5 months in Bali this year and moving premaritally over the next three years. I love the pluralism of Bali and your video suggest you do also. I will be adding a not e my Facebook page regarding Nyepi and your video helped me to gather my thoughts a bit. Thank you again. Hope I run into you somewhere. It would be a pleasure.

Something I was taught is that the ogoh ogoh, don't know if I spelled that correctly, are supposed to scare off evil spirits.
