Did the same for all 3 children. Now in their 30's they've forgiven me and did the same for their children. Also works for transitioning from Bottles to sippy cups.

Important to ween them off it. It becomes a crutch for them and it can ruin their bite alignment (think buck teeth). If it goes on too long it becomes a dependency and they don't learn how to handle boredom, frustration, basic emotions.

A cute way to dispose of it have the child help you bury it, tell them it turns into a cake pop. Water it, later bring child out to a cake pop in it's place. Once they eat it that's that.
