i might be pretentiously overanalyzing but it seems like part of why he's obsessed with hedgehogs is because he saw more love between their little families than he did in his own :(

As a past victim of child and domestic abuse I can relate to this movie very much. As a child I grew fascinated with animals and did well in school to distract myself from the physical and emotional abuse back home. I kept to myself and sheltered myself from others but always confinded in animals and even grew up to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. This film has touched my heart in a way no other has and it does make me feel like someone out there understands the struggle of being part of a broken home. Of growing up without a real childhood or sense of safety. Thank you for creating this film.

I once heard a tale about a group of hedgehogs that to survive the winter had to embrace each other to keep their heat. It was painful for them, but they did it because they wanted each other to live. This is a good animated story that reveals that there can be love in the harshest of places.

Wow. Right when I realized the unhealthy obsession he had with hedgehogs, the little alarms in my head went off. Being so focused on one thing so unhealthily in kids makes the little sensor in my head tell me something is wrong at home.

Yet another animation wit astounding aesthetics and a heartbreaking story. This easily captures the struggles of a child estranged from those who he likes and those who he loves. It's difficult watching someone be in a similar situation. Thought provoking as usual, gobelins.

Great films this year. I remember 6 or 7 years ago, most gobelin shorts were flashy, high octane shorts with little meaning. They were excellent, but the focus on meaningful story is really apparent recently.

How can an animator do this? How can they make me feel everything for a boy i met 3 minuites ago? How can they create a story so emotionally sensitive and end it so abruptly? How can i leave him alone, to fend for himself? How can we leave him?

You can immediately spot a lonely person by the fact that in public he /she speaks a lot about his/her favourite topic (aka universe)... Ehem.. Very relatable...

Before I even knew what was going on at his house, I still wanted to be his freind so he could have someone to talk to. I really like that one girl who wanted to be his friend! I also noticed how he was taking his time to get home and how his mood changed as well, awesome animation!

The tears came when the credits started rolling. It's incredible when works of art make you think about the concept being conveyed just after they've finished, or you turn to the next painting. Just sat there thinking...

This story represents my life so much, except I didn't had anyone neither a hedgehog nor a dog/cat. Whenever something bad used to happen I tried to sleep and dream about a better day. This boy's coping mechanism is thinking about his hedgehog and mine is dreaming.

Scary how relatable this is, or was I guess

A lot of people talk about how this boy is latching on to hedgehogs to cope with the problems he's dealing with at home. I agree with that and it makes a lot of sense but the special interest in all things hedgehog also reminds me a lot of autistic behaviours and i thinks this is a really bittersweet story

Im not crying, you are!

It really hit me hard when knowing that no one payed attention to him, they avoided him at all cost, then seeing that his parents were always fighting broke my heart into tiny little pieces, honestly I pray to God to make me a great mother someday, to give me a wonderful husband with amazing values and never let my kids grow up seeing fights and violence... just love

That moment right before the credits, when the boy has his back to the screen... it was so heartbreaking to see...

This was lovely, both visually and in the story.

The only thing that I'd change here is the modelling of the boy's hair. I get that it was meant to be like a hedgehog, but it seems (to me) to clash with the strong visual style of everything else around it.

I cried, I know exactly how it is to throw yourself into something obsessively because you can escape the verbal abuse for just a little while
