Lateral elbow pain: the underrated muscle that goes under the radar
Показать описание
In this video I discuss a muscle that goes under the radar when talking about lateral elbow pain: the Anconaeus muscle.
Anconaeus attaches above the lateral epicondyle, below to the side of the olecranon process and to the dorsal surface of the ulnar bone. It's supplied by branches of the radial nerve via the posterior cord of the brachial plexus from the spinal roots at C7. Where the extensors often refer down into the hand, the Anconaeus is a great site for lateral elbow pain specifically.
I find the combination of lateral triceps, Anconaeus, Extensor carpi Ulnaris, Extensor carpi brevis trigger points create the perfect environment for muscular overload conditions of the lateral elbow condition. It's important to note that the Anconaeus muscle appears as an extension of the triceps between the lateral epicondyle and the olecranon process.
Always keep in mind that the supraspinatus can refer beautifully to the lateral elbow. Keep these muscles in mind when treating lateral elbow pain; your assessment and palpation should be used to rule in or out when treating lateral elbow pain.
