If there's one thing history shows it's that Japan really doesn't like Russia.

Japan can't fail to have noticed the cooperation between Russia and North Korea, which has regularly threatened Japan with its, missiles.

Something to keep in mind: Japan doesn't claim the entirety of the Kurils (as defined by Russia), only those islands that were never Russian territory before the end of WW2, namely Kunashiri, Etorofu, Shikokan and the Habomai islands.

Japan is in a situation that they understand if dictators are allowed to take the neighbor's country, it's not good for them.

To my Japanese brothers and sisters. You honor yourselves by sticking up for the little guys! I am very proud you are an ally of the US. We salute you 🫡

If I'm not mistaken, as well as the Patriot systems, Japan has also transferred artillery shells to the US, Canada and the UK. Because Japan placed no conditions on these transfers, the shells can then be forwarded to Ukraine by these countries.

If any one knows how to rebuild a country after a disaster, its Japan. Good on ya Japan.

If Ukraine joins the EU after the war, then it also gives Japanese companies access to the EU market they previously would not have.
This is GENIUS on Japan's thinking.

Japan and Russia have been at war several times over the years. Not just during WW2. There's no love lost there.

Maybe Russia can threaten Japan with their navy like in 1905... oh wait, that didn't go well... for Russia.

Keep in mind Japan doesn't have much agricultural land, plus their demographics is a problem.
Both problems can be partially solved by Ukraine. Ukraine is has very valuable land for agriculture.

Don't underestimate Japan's humanitarian aid. It makes easier that other countries may focus on military equipment.
