In this video we'll basically compare mudrunner and snowrunner, their physics, sound and find out why mudrunner is praised even to this day. It's basically extension of my previous video on same topic.

Snowrunner and Modrunner are just like GTA 4 and GTA 5. GTA 4 has excellent physics and realism of car damage and a depressing atmosphere (just like in Modrunner), while GTA 5 has clumsy physics and realism of car damage and a good color atmosphere (just like in Snowrunner)

MR is in the same category as BeamNGDrive, it's not just a game, is asmr for the eyes (and ears too), the way the vehicles behave is borderline hypnotic, I could be all day watching MR suspensions bounce up and down

That's for sure. When I was a child, my grandfather worked in a tractor repair shop. I have seen many different tractors, including the K-700. Even though I've never been inside a K-700, I remember what it sounds like. That high whistle of the turbine, I heard almost every day. It's practically the sound of my childhood. When I went to school, I did not live in the countryside, and I never saw so many tractors again. And almost 20 years later, when I fired up MudRunner for the first time and found out that there was a K-700 there, I felt such a sense of nostalgia, when I heard this turbine whistle.

That's one thing that's always made me kinda mad is that alot of the tippy trucks in snow runner have ladder frames that allow the cab and body to flex in different directions for stability irl but it's not in game

The biggest issue with snowrunner for me is controls. Mudrunner had much better controller support. H-pattern, clutch, progressive throttle input. With mastering of using them all you could easily put yourself out from really tricky situations. In Snowrunner throttle seems like on/off switch with some kind of weird traction control always on. H-pattern? Ha, no.

One thing i miss from MR that isn't in SR is cruise control. It was so nice on long hauls

I thought it was just me thinking these things lol. I find on snowrunner that you either have traction or you don't. In mudrunner though on controller you could feel your traction in the mud. You could apply a small amount of acceleration to gain traction and go through the mud, too much and you lose grip, where as snowrunner it's just not there. It feels like any amount of gas will pull you out. Or you're stuck

The thing i don't like in both the games is that it often feels lonely. Like there is no one around, just us and some wild animals' sounds in the backgrounds.
If it had like bunch if npc walking around, a radio,
Or even one or two vehicles circling randomly would have made it nice.

I really wish devs would add these features in sr

I remember driving along at speed in SR (I think in the Western Star Twinsteer) and having a collision with some piece of scenery which you should just be able to roll on over. It was a twig or small branch laying in the dirt road. Of course the truck bounces backward in hilarious fashion. I believe it was on the same map where we first find the Twinsteer.

This is why I liked snowrunner but never loved it as much as I did with Spintires and Mudrunner. Snowrunner felt instantly more arcade.

3:50 actually the sounds in Mudrunner came from the older soundesign of Spintires. A few years ago you could hear simmilar ones in Spintires but then they recieved the current audio.

For me the only bad thing in Mudrunner is thoes horrendous grills on many truck to avoid copyright. Like the worst one is the B-66(Gaz 66) which has a Kamaz grill edited on the front. Luckly a mod solves this issue.

Thanks for reminding me just how much better of an all around game Mudrunner really is over Snowrunner....You really need to make more videos like this.

I only touched MudRunner for a short period of time and I'm totally blown away with this video comparison! You made me want to try and finish MudRunner
Also I think the decision to move over to a new game engine to make SnowRunner was a mistake (imo). Think it'd be better to keep the MudRunner's game engine and just develop SnowRunner on it.

The trucks that have whining transmission sounds as far as I know:
Western Star 6900 TwinSteer
International Paystar 5600TS
Derry Longhorn 4520
Tayga 6436
Freightliner M916A1
I missed some trucks, maybe

And also the damage part in mudrunner was absolutely awesome. The vehicles were far more capable too because the terrain was harder.

I want a blend of mudrunners engine with snowrunners missions

All very good points.
I think the plan to make SR bigger in content but with less details was taken before the development started. It was always about bigger size not better quality.

The biggest issue, seems to be the Focus. Mud runner, there were no missions. No quests. No goals. The maps had a logging point. And a point to drop wood off at. But you didn't have to actually do them. It was much more of a 'Physics' playground, with high details physics of mud, and high detailed physics of trucks. The logging is just a reason to experience those physics. But it was mostly just driving and enjoying the realistic physics.

Snowrunner, however, decided that was too hard. They gave up on physics. They gave up on Realism. They gave up on the core fandom and why people loved spintires and mudrunner. They decided to focus on Missions. And Only missions. They gave you more Objectives to do, but in focusing on that, they spent less time on actual physics for the game, and on crafting well made realistic trucks. Instead focusing on... Farming? Crafting? Special Trailers? wtf? Why can't we just get cool ass physics with cool ass realistic trucks, AND the cool ass missions. It couldn't have been THAT hard to port over the physics for the environments and the Trucks, right? Or did they become too lazy?

It is such a shame. I never done any of the Snowrunner DLCs yet, even tho I own them all, up to this date, and from the other video about everything Snowrunner does wrong, I do not look forward to playing those DLCs. Cause they sound boring. Tedious. Unfun. And Fundamentally goes against the core concept of the "Mudrunner/Spintires" focus. Namely, the physics of the Trucks, and Mud/water. Which is such a Shame.

also, for the players who uses a wheel setup, mudrunner did a great job in supporting shifters as well. unlike in snowrunner which you are obliged to find the missing upgrades just to unlock the manual tranny of a truck with a cross patterned shifter that looked and felt stupid.

mudrunner also offers the best feeling of actually 'feeling' the weight of the truck in terrain unlike in snowrunner

I think whatever offroad game in the series we get next will be the ultimate combo of scale and detail. I love Mudrunner, but I love how I can play SnowRunner and almost never be finished. Always something to do
