We had one of these and a super MD that we powered my dad's sawmill and snaked logs from woods to the mill they was AWESOME MACHINES!!!!

What was the result of carb soak. What all do you use, acetone, evaporust mentioned. I bought a decent sized used ultrasonic tank that can hold a big ol JD duplex. I put stiff vinegar then quick baking soda folllwed by at least 4 rounds of straight water with heat on for 30 minutes each till its clear. I have a lot to learn about carb rebuilds and tuning.

Havent used a farmall that ran good that wasnt under a load. Theyre made to work and dont like light loads.

Is the thermostat working, my was not, and so it was not warming the engine, causing it not to run smoothly at idle but run good under load.
