Which is exactly what the American empire does today through finance & its military.

Here in uganda also we were not colonized. It was a protectorate. The king of buganda invited the British due to the fear of being attacked by arabs. But some ignorant people say that we were colonized.

Crown Protectorate status worked pretty well for Bechuanaland and Basutoland. It stopped them being colonized by the Boers and subjected to ethnic cleansing and Apartheid as happened in the neighbouring territories which became South Africa and Rhodesia. Asking for Queen Victoria's protection enabled them to keep the white settlers out, so that in due course they could become independent African countries without having to overthrow white racist masters first - Botswana and Lesotho.

That's not what happened in Egypt at all. It was part of the ottoman empire

Whenever a person talks in metaphors instead of details they’re normally bulshitting. I’d expect at least a mention of Lord Cromer when discussing the British in Egypt.

And there were absolutely no other European nations that were colonial empires at the time who were a potential threat. Were there?

Only the british Empire did this. All of history's other empires were altruistic and benign.

this guys ability to weave truth and lies is very impressive, much more so than his understanding of history

The irony being that Italy eventually had a far more repressive regime in the neighborhood, in Ethiopia, Eritrea, using mustard gas, massacres etc.

Can’t blame Britain for being better at what every other Human civilisation had being since the dawn of time

I'd be interested to see his videos on the American Fruit company in S America and also ones on the US in Cuba and the Philippines. Does anybody have a link to those?

The Suez canal was the only reason for the British "protectorate". His analogy of a protection racket is disingenuous, because the British didn't extract any tribute or protection money from Egypt. As the guy says, it had self rule. If anything, it cost the British to protect the Suez canal. It had strategic importance, not economic importance.

As someone who has been to Egypt and mix with the locals, most of the modern infrastructure was built by the British from trains to dams.
Speaking to the locals it was a lot less corrupt under British oversight than it is now. But you have to travel and visit these countries rather than have an opinion based on tiktok and read some posts
Wasn’t it the French before the British, pretty sure Napoleon was there first

No, the British took Egypt as a 'protectorate' from ...others who would have taken it.

This is a pretty false history of Egypt's protectorate. Egypt had terrible financial trouble after the Ottoman Empire collapsed. Egypt was not self-governing and functional so prior to the British.

This style of history is why universities are losing paying students

Just one minor difference ... the British didn't deliberately drop them in the sh*t like the Americans did to Afghanistan...
