In my opinion, the 1949 band is the best of Artie`s later big bands. Very innovative and forward-looking. Outstanding musicians, perfectly tuned. An impressive symbiosis between swing and modern jazz. Artie shows, that the clarinet can also hold its own in modern jazz. Many thanks to composer and arranger Johnny Mandel. DerKlariNette

Along with Buddy DiFranco, the best clarinetists to sound right at home with the post swing-era approach to jazz.(Not necessarily bop, although close at times)
