Do you think this detachment holds a flame to the index one?

What this is missing really is the ensorcelled ammunition strat. A huge part of why the index detachment is good is that we can choose that *all* shooting is psychic for a unit. If this had an enhancement that treated all ranged attacks as psychic, then it'd be great. Right now, it's a miss from me.

Gee the highlights on those wings are nice. Someone must have been in a magical state of flow to produce that.

I think if those abilities stacked and you could always reroll ones to wound, that might make this detachment a little more interesting. The problem I see is that the points cuts necessary to make this detachment great would absolutely break Cult of Magic again. So, kinda a dud.

On paper, this detachment is interesting, because it feels like this detachment is trying to spread the love out to more units, but I feel like Tsons really don't have the model range to be able to take advantage of it, as well as there being some specifics about the detachment that irk me.

First, I don't get why the detachment rule specifies that you get reroll wound rolls of 1, or +1 to wound. If it did both, I would be more tempted to give this a try over Cult of Magic. And then the reinforcement stratagem annoys me. Why does it specify that Scarab Occult can't charge? I already have to be putting in the work of having Flow at the beginning of my movement phase, would it really be so overpowered to let them have a 6" charge out of deepstrike under those conditions? It's not like it's a 3" deepstrike, which is the norm for having that restriction.

But the big problem is the model range, if we just had some sort of troop/elite unit that was essentially a coven of aspiring sorcerers, who had the psychic keyword on all their attacks, I feel like this could be a really interesting detachment where something like that could shine.

I think the real issue with the detatchment is that because our Index was so OP they had to put all the units up in points, so now anything short of a busted detatchment is basically unplayable. In a vacuum this detatchment with normal points might be alright, but we don't live in a vacuum!

This might be a "no named character" detachment maybe. Like it's not bad but not as good as the one we have now on first glance. Still I like it, and it can mix up the gameplay in a rather interesting way. It's not just a few mix ups but a full new mechanic to play around with.

It make me fear the codex a little. Why? To many thing overlap with our datasheets. Reroll 1 to wound? I mean, if your a wizard with rubric marine, you already have that or better. 90% of what this detachment does is already doable by the TS right now. This is alarming.

Also, what I liked about the Christmas detachment was that it gave some underplayed stuff a little shine. This one? Not so much. An easy fix would be to remove the enhancement to always be in the flow with an enhancement that give a unit with sorcerer in terminator armour psychic on melee weapon and it would be something cool to help an underplayed unit that kind of benefit from this detachment.

It's weird, because, in a way, Magnus benefit a lot in being in this detachment once you read it more: reroll 1 to wound all the time, 4+ fight on death (sometime 3+), fall back and shoot/charge (some conditions applies), ignore cover, stealth and sometime auto cover (but who does not have cover with this model? lol).

I guess Ahriman is also buffed in a way: he can deepstrike in the backfield with a unit of 10 flamers.

The sorcerer in terminator armour is also kind of winning here with the add 3 attack enhancement. Making his psychic anti-vehicule/monster 4+ devastating wound double his number of shots, rerolling 1s on hit and on wounds.

I don't know, I'm a little bit underwhelm on this one. I will try it with serious and more out there build and see if it is worth it.

This might not be the flashiest detachment but I’ll take anything over keyword salad. Just glad to see something that just works for [Faction Units] instead of a handful of models in the whole range.

Shame we didn't get anything to assist demon allies. Basically we will still be playing the same way as before. So I can't see this competing with the cult of magic detachment. Also I can't see why the terminators couldn't be allowed to charge, demons can when they come down 6 inches away. Would have given the terminators a role and would have made me consider this detachment.

The strats are really cool, but the rest is kinda meh tbh. If this was grey knights it would be fantastc.

Instead of man reads book, I'd prefer insight and opinion

this detachment isn't really that good, its more or less a less efficient cult of magic which I'll be sticking with.

What a delusion :( It's once again Codex: Sorcerers, and that's that.

I truly, truly hoped that we get an arcane construct detachment for demon engines...

What a shame, wasted opportunity.
