I said empty your mind,

Like water.
If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup
If you put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle
you put into a teapot, it becomes the teapot.
Now water can flow or it can crash,
Be water my friend.

Actually you see, Its a combination of both.
Here is natural instinct and here is control,
you are to combine the two harmony.
if you have one to the extreme you become very unscientific
if you have another to the extreme you become all of a sudden a mechanical man.
no longer a human being
its a successful combination of both

the word super star really turned me off
and I'll tell you why
because the word "star" man is an illusion
you should look at one self as an actor

All type of knowledge ultimately means self knowledge.
So therefore, they ask me teach them not so much how to defend themselves
but rather they want to learn to express themselves through some movement.

Ultimately martial arts means: honestly express yourself
now that is very hard to do
to express oneself honestly not lying to oneself
that my friend is very hard to do
you have to train

you have to keep your reflexes so that when you want it is there
when you want to move you are moving
and when you move you are determined to move

All the time you are keeping the continuity going
bending, streching
you just keep it moving.

The idea is:

Running water never grows stale.

So you just have to keep on flowing

He's talking about expressing yourself in a way that there is a balance between natural instinct and self conrol and how to flow continuously in that way. Not to allow either one to block that flow. To be prepared for whatever comes because you are maintaining that balance.

I may not know him well, but Bruce Lee is the kind of role model that I wish I had in my life. I struggle with expressing myself, and if anyone could help me along that path, it's master Bruce Lee. I believe that he can guide us along the path of expressing ourselves and gaining self-knowledge, even if he is no longer here on Earth

If you are a fighter or an athlete...you'll clearly understand what Bruce is talking about. He's putting it all together for you to become the ultimate athlete. But you must grasp and understand what he's talking about and put it all together or else it won't work. In other words, you need both talent and brain to do what he's teaching. Those that can put these things together will become super athletes.
