Cavalcade Cocktails: The Rock Lobster - A Found Recipe

Recently as I was going through some old cookbooks that I picked up at a garage sale, I came across a bunch of loose handwritten recipe cards tucked inside one of the books. This is not an unusual thing, but one of the recipes was for a cocktail - something called a Rock Lobster. It had a notation that it was from the Brass Rail bar in Port Huron, Michigan. The recipe was beautifully written in ink, so someone wanted to make sure to save this information! In researching online, I've seen this cocktail called "Rock Lobster #2, as there are a couple of variations. Either way, this is a delicious dessert cocktail perfect for holiday entertaining or anytime!

3/4 shot Amaretto
3/4 shot Light Creme de Cacao
3/4 shot Irish Cream
heavy cream (or half and half)
Ground cinnamon

Fill a rocks glass with ice. Combine the Amaretto, Creme de Cacao and Irish Cream in glass. Stir to combine. Top with a small layer of cream. Dust top of drink with ground cinnamon. Enjoy!

Regarding not entertaining/inviting others to my place... I am wondering back when that fell away from my regular social round. I appreciate the wake-up. Thank you

Great episode, I look forward to making this cocktail. I love when I find hand written recipes in old cookbooks 😊

I don't drink, Kevin, but I still listened to the entire episode. I enjoy everything you do!

Do you have an episode where you explain your backstory? Were you once a chef? Did you own a restaurant? I'd be very interested in how you got to this point in your life. Thank you

Remember when cocktails and hors d’oeuvres were served to company that was dressed in their party attire? Oh those were the days. We did a holiday favorite treats party, where the company brought some of their favorite dips, small bites and finger foods. It was a hit. We provided and served the cocktails. It’s a fun way to just bring the gang together for some fun. I have never heard of this cocktail so I’ll be trying it soon❤😊

When you held up the recipe card I immediately recognized it.. I have the exact card! I bought a box of them to write my favorite recipes on back in the 70's 🤩😂

Kevin, you're absolutely right about people not entertaining at home anymore. We love entertaining at home and do so regularly. However, t's become exhausting because we're the only people we know who do! It would be nice if people reciprocated occasionally. This drink certainly looks interesting. I wish I liked amaretto! I dislike anything almond flavored (especially extract). Few things I dislike but top of the list! I love these cocktail segments as we're always looking for something new to try. Keep them coming! Cheers! Adam.

My mother-in-law would love this drink. She loves these liquors separately in her coffee or as sippers. I will have to share the recipe. Thanks ❤

I'm going tomorrow to buy the booze to make this oldie but goodie. I'm usually a old fashioned or rum and coke guy. Whatever reason this resonates with me. Very holidayish!

I remember my parents throwing parties and even my generation in the ‘80s up until the late ‘90s, we had parties. I don’t know why they stopped? Maybe we were trying to save money or maybe the threat of a lawsuit scared us into stopping? But I miss those times with friends and family. Thanks for the cocktail recipe. I’ll try anything once😉😂!

I love the decorations on Christmas but Thanksgiving and NYE because Thanksgiving was when my immediate family gathered together (Age difference between me and my siblings I had in-laws in Elementary School 😂 ) & on NYE my grandmother would have a gathering and all my extended family aunts, uncles, and cousins were there and my cousins my age I only saw them on NYE and 4th of July because they lived out of state so it made those holidays special.

This looks delicious. But I’m lactose intolerant. I wonder if there is a less milky version. Hmmm…I wonder if I could substitute the cream for coconut cream?

Ngl I didn’t know Rock Lobster was a drink lol. I don’t drink alcohol so maybe that’s why I thought it was a lobster casserole or something like that 🤣🤣
