My grandmother was a Cheshire. This pub is on my bucket list . I have traced my ancestors to 1600s in Buckinghamshire and other locales, however no London links

I was there in September 22 by myself and ended up sitting in the exact seat you were in having a pint and imagining all the crazy history those walls had seen. I'll also always remember the distinct ancient fishy smell the place had that I've never really smelled anywhere else. Also can't forget to say hi to Polly in the front room when you're ordering.

Used to be a Samuel Smiths pub I'm not sure what it is now. Plus they used to have a real coal or coke fire in the main front bar, the one on the right as you go in the door. Lovely pub. Dr Johnson may have gone in there but it wasn't his main haunt, that was the Mitre which was further down Fleet Street on the opposite side where Hoare's Bank is Located.

They serve Marston's and the food is very good too.
