Mixing an abundance of key hues at the start is such a good practice! It streamlines the whole process and ensures that there is enough of everything without trying to match a color later. We were really interested in how you manipulated the paint at intervals with a palette knife- we know a few artists who make a habit of lifting off excess color to control the texture of the surface, and to make sure that the canvas doesn't "load up" too much during the session. Very nice!

Wonderful dramatic clouds without overstating the storm. We don't actually get clouds like that too often in norcal of course. ;-) Our plein air group is going out to a part of the sonoma coast that is notorious for its fog. Any tips (or demos) on a dramatic foggy scene over dramatic cliffs/landscape?

This is great! Very helpful. I am intrigued by the vertical palette, which I have seen a couple other people do, too. Is this a common way of working, or something people started doing to make it easier to film? Do you use no solvents and mediums? I’m quite interested in working that way off-camera.
