Re: why they left the crane up: those cranes are *huge* and have a full week tear-down time, but Milton blew up in just 3 days, it was just too fast to dismantle them in time. They're already considering new options for more manageable emergency-prep-ready big equipment like such for the future.

insurance makes money by taking your money and "not" paying you when you need it. That's literally the business model. if insurance companies need to get backstopped by the government maybe they shouldn't be allowed to exist as private institutions.

I’m here in Tampa Florida and this storm was the wildest hurricane we have ever seen! Thank u guys for covering this to show what we are going through. Power is still out literally across the state

I saw those cranes on the news before the storm. They were worried about them and were hoping they wouldn't come down, but there was not enough time to disassemble it. The reporter in that area shouldn't have been near it.

The tornado outbreak was much worse than expected. Generally hurricanes can spawn tornados, but they're weak. But Milton spawned super strong ones

It’s also surreal to watch this show every day and now they’re actually covering something. That’s literally happening in my backyard. Like I live in St. Lucie County, where all of the tornadoes hit thank God I made it out OK

Milton tore my roof off. But, the Internet is still working. Ha!

The cranes take days to disassemble. The storm went from tropical to cat 5 so fast and traveled so fast that they simply didn't have time to bring down the cranes...

You guys really need to get a call with an insurance professional someone who deals with risk management in Florida and can explain the whole story. reinsurance, loss ratios and state regulations.

As Floridians from St Pete our family loves the Breaking Points team as well. Thank you for covering the storms. We are currently in Orlando with no updates on the status of our home. Duke Energy states that the power is out and our leasing office said that the roads leading to our complex are closed. Hopefully we’ll be able to gain access to our home tomorrow when we arrive back from Orlando. Sending love to my fellow Floridians. Stay safe.

Everyone points to the roof of Tropicana stadium being torn off as an indicator of the power of the storm. For me unless the roof is made of mithril, a fabric roof being torn off doesn't really impress me. A single tree being knocked over seems more impactful.

on her crane question, that crane was a stationary crane it takes days to take down and a lot of space. best practice it to turn off the brakes and let it turn freely so it blows with the winds and doesn't turn into a sail and blow over. but they are not design for winds of this speed from what I guess.

The problem with insurance bailouts is the same any other bailouts. No guarantee they will payout claims but a guarantee they will payout to the shareholders and big bonuses to the CEO.

The Media really blew this one. They kept focusing on the trajectory of the eye, which is normally the center of a symmetrical hurricane. But Milton was asymmetrical. It was like a butterfly viewed from the side with the bottom wing chopped off. Those of us who live north of the path saw a lot more wind and rain than we were led to believe from the cone type picture they kept showing on TV.

I lived 1 block from where that crane fell…thats First Ave S and 3rd St….crazy to see your hometown on National News. Escaped to Savannah now and everyone is safe. We will rebuild way better than before …the Trop is due to come down anyways…
