The Lycabettus Funicular is a funicular railway to the top of Mount Lycabettus in the Greek capital city of Athens. It was constructed in the 1960s by the Greek Tourist Organisation (EOT) and was inaugurated on April 18, 1965. The terminal stations are situated at Aristippou street, in Kolonaki, and the Chapel of St. George, near the top of the hill. Between the terminal stations, the line is entirely in tunnel.

In 2002 extensive refurbishment was carried out, involving replacement of the motor, of the hydraulic brake unit, of the electronics safety systems, of the control room and of the two cars of the funicular. The railway now runs daily services, with a capacity of about 400 persons per hour.

The overhaul of the mechanical and electrical equipment was done under the direct supervision of EΤΕΜΑ and lasted less than 6 months. It involved a change of the motor, of the hydraulic brakes’ unit, of the electronics safety systems, of the control room and of course of the two carriages of the funicular. The mechanical installation was done by the worldwide known Swiss company Doppelmayr Tramways, while the electrical and electronic installation was completed by another leader in its field, the Swiss company Frey AG Stans. The carriages were completed manufactured in Greece based on the design and under the supervision of our company. EΤΕΜΑ took over the technical supervision of the funicular since its first day of operation, proving once again its high level of technical know-how.

At this point it must be noted that the funicular operates 19 hours per day, 365 days per year and on average it transports 300.000 passengers per year! The main technical characteristics of the funicular are as follows:
- Inclined length: 210 m
- Inclination: 28°
- Maximum speed: 2,0 m/s
- Number of carriages: 2
- Carriage capacity: 34 passengers
- Maximum transport capacity in one direction: 410 passengers / h
- Number of operators: 1

Ωραίο το βίντεο, υπέροχη η θέα, αυτές οι κακάσχημες κεραίες και τα απαίσια καλώδια αν έλειπαν απο την κορυφή του Λυκαβηττού θα ηταν τέλεια!

WOW ! Thanks for these videos, so much appreciated, couldn't make it to Greece this summer and you have been visiting all my favorite spots...this being one of my all time favorites..so much clearer now, back in the 80's and early 90's you could barely see the water from there because of the smog !

At 8:13 the Acropolis (Parthenon) was in the distance. Don't you have a Zoom on your camera??? Also why did you go past it and not freeze the video? This ruined your nice video. Unless you never heard of the Acropolis .
