Incredible video shows the moment a trash truck exploded into flames after hitting an overpass on Indianapolis east side Monday. Thankfully, the driver was not injured.

East New York Street was shut down at LaSalle Street on the east side of Indianapolis during Monday morning's rush hour after a trash truck hit a railroad overpass and caught fire.

According to IMPD, the Republic trash truck hit the concrete bridge shortly before 8 a.m. and caught fire.

IFD responded and extinguished the fire. The driver of the truck was not hurt.

New York Street was closed for a bridge inspection.

it's a cng converted truck the tanks with carbon fiber housing is on top. The bridge appears to have ripped the tanks off the truck. The truck itself would have protected the driver from the worst of the flames.

I'm guessing that the driver was not driving his usual route and was unfamiliar with the fact that this bridge is low. More than likely he usually drives a different route that doesn't encounter any low bridges like this. That's just my theory anyway.

You and your partner go home at the end of the day without a scratch, no job, the truck can't be found because it's been blown to bits and your ears ringing for two weeks. The boss will hire the two of you back in a week after he's cooled off. Like it never even happened.

Edit: Other commenters have pointed out it was the type of truck and the tanks they had on top that caused the explosion. Seems legit to me.

So...What was in that truck that caused it to explode?

Something in the back of that truck was highly explosive. Look at other cars and big trucks crashing. They don't explode like that. Something explosive was inside that truck, or planted under the overpass, and when the truck scraped it's top, and created sparks, ignited the explosive.

I'd be hard pressed to believe they don't find any accelerant or anything like that if they investigate.

Easily done, drive double decker buses and single deckers. Back of mind always try to remember which one.😮

Cng is really a bad idea. This has happened before too. Also during fueling (it takes hours and special bays to fuel) Oftened wondered how being better for the environment means its OK to drive with bombs on trucks. Scary it's more and more common.

That’s why you have diesel trucks, that wouldn’t have even been a problem if it was diesel powered. Awesome idea let’s drive bombs around to save the environment, what could go wrong

The driver may need his wife to look after him, for the next 32 odd days, on full sick pay. Over Christmas - and the New Year.

😢sad, someone probably died in this? I doubt the driver had time to get out.

That wasn’t the truck exploding, I’d bet there was some kind of gas lane running there?
