In Southern Spain where I live they call it ITV, you drive down a warehouse & they test various parts of the car lights, brakes etc..., the whole process only takes 9mins ! & its done every 2 years until the car gets to a certain age then its every year.

The emissions test is actually a load of bollocks, , , all my cars have been de-catted, , high flow downpipes and a full non resonated system, , they fail every time on emissions from ‘’mainstream garages/centres’’ find a friendly back street/rural family business or old timer, , tell them about the mods-slip em £30 extra it’s a pass every time 👍🏻

The simplest things that an owner can check before mot are that all the lights work properly front and back, the wipers are not worn and do clear the windscreen properly, & there is water in the washers and they work properly too.

Keep £100 note in your hand when you shake the hand of the tester.

With town driving, exhaust can get very sooty etc, day before or on the day of test normal engine temperatures give a run at 3K revs for 20 minutes, clears exhaust out, more free flowing.

My mates next door neighbour put the omissions test on an other car so his could pass that's class 😂

All you need to pass an MOT test is a good garage that you know that knows you will get your car fixed and let you pass on the daft stuff that's not important

Something interesting I found out was that MOT testers are not allowed to remove any part of the vehicle they are testing, including the wheels.

When I last took it in, I asked them to look at one of my wheels for punctures as I had a slow leak that had around for a while. They didn't find anything, that slow leak got more rapid and I took it to my local tyre fitters, within 5 seconds they found the alloy was buckled from a previous pot hole I had hit, which I had suspected all along.

Point is, these tests can only do so much.
