South Korea continues to mourn following the tragic events in Itaewon last weekend.
Members of the public are also continuing to gather at memorial sites to pay their respects.
Our Shin Se-byuck joins us live from Seoul Plaza.. one of many memorial alters set up in the South Korean capital.
Se-byuck, still a somber atmosphere there...

Hello, Mark.
As you said I'm here at Seoul Plaza. It's quite chilly today. But still, people continuously come to this site .. on their way to work.. during lunch time... to mourn those who died in tragic circumstances last Saturday in Itaewon.
So far, as of 5PM Wednesday, a total of over 70-thousand people have paid their respects to the victims at memorial sites…. set up in Seoul's 25 districts... including the one in Itaewon
Yesterday alone, over 20-thousand people offered their condolences at memorial sites in the capital.

Visitors include both Koreans and members of Korea's international community.... with foreign nationals among those who lost their lives.
And I talked to some of them.

"This is something that should've never happened. It's heartbreaking. I hope the government establishes a social system to ensure such tragedy isn't repeated."

"It's really sad and really devastating. Coming here... today and seeing people paying respects is really nice and comforting. And I also hope this is something we can hopefully prevent so that something like this won't repeat in the future"

We can echo those sentiments that everything must be done to prevent something like this ever happening again. Se-byuck, as with other days, we understand there were also visits by a number of public figures,... from both home and abroad.

A number of public figures including President Yoon Seok-yeol and Seoul mayor Oh Se-hoon were among those to visit this site.
President Yoon just paid his fourth visit… about an hour after the altar opened.
Yoon, earlier... said he'd visit the altar everyday until they close.
Quite a few ambassadors to South Korea… including those from Taiwan and Indonesia,... also visited to pay their respects in the past few days.
And today, a renowned Japanese politician, Vice President of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan, and former prime minister Taro Aso.. who's on a visit to South Korea... also came here to offer his condolences.
Visits such as these are quite meaningful as the tragedy took place in an area considered by many to be Seoul's international hub.
The memorial altar at this site will be open until Saturday between 8 AM and 10 PM, but further information on site locations and opening times are available online.

Ok, that's good information for people who would still like to go there and pay their respects. Have the authorities provided us with an update on the number of people who died and were injured?

As of 6 AM this morning, the death toll remains unchanged at 156.
That figure includes 26 foreign nationals.
Of the fatalities, nearly two-thirds are women.
According to the government this morning, the funerals of 128 people ... including 7 foreign nationals ... have taken place.
8 more funerals will take place today.
The government says it will take some time to complete the funeral process for foreign nationals... considering different cultures... and the cost of transporting remains.
As for the injured, one more person was added to the list of people injured bringing the total to 173.
33 are reportedly in serious condition.

That's all for now, but I will be back in about an hour and a half.
Back to you, Mark.

If I have a shop along that tragic walkway I would sell my business straight away and move somewhere else. That stretch of street will be haunted
