I think I saw one yesterday here near Rochester, NY. It did move similar to a woodpecker. Great video!

After chickadee, red breasted I have fed by hand, my husband had white breasted.

Central Ontario Canada, they come and go randomly all year here.

I saw a new bird this morning at my feeders while watching the cloud of hummingbirds having their fun. This little bird caught my eye from it's coloring. It was almost the size of a white breasted nuthatch. Color was unique and apparently unheard of because I can't find anything on it so far. It was crisp white with sharp striping in black. Two black stripes on the head and more striping on the body with sharp edges between the black and white. No blending of the colors anywhere.
I say nuthatch because it had the same body build and it was spending the little time I saw it on my peach tree head down. I have loads of brown heads and fewer white breasts around all the time. Definitely not a juvenile white breast.
The closest thing I've found to it so far is the black and white warbler but the warbler has way to much black and the patterns blend at the edges. This bird had striking color and patterns. Beautiful work of art it was. So wish I could have gotten a picture!
Since it's so rare apparently and no one has ever seen it before, I've got dibs on the name! The Pinstriped Nuthatch! hahaha
Probably never see it again,

we see white breasted nuthatches here in western PA. they are such sleek little birds, and like to jump from seeds to suet feeders.
