I grew up in a low income family. We didn't have a computer or internet at home for years while I was in school and I did homework st the library for most of my school years. I was able to get to university, and my career will allow me to provide for my kids if I ever have them. I would've never made it as a kid in these COVID times. Lower income children are really going to suffer:(

I work at an after school program in a low income area and this whole thing has inspired me to really step up and become more of a teacher. I at first only had experience in day care work but I was lucky enough to impress my superiors enough to get me a job at a learning center.

My program is opening up tomorrow, the big first day. The best part is that I learned my boss quit today, so I am going to be all on my own with the students and an intern. I am not going to let all this set me back though, I am going to really listen to these kids and teach them what online learning has been failing them for all this time.

I may have never wanted to be a teacher but these are the cards I was dealt and it is time to step up and make this world a better place.

The missed meals alone are huge because these kids were starving before remote learning.

When this first started I thought, what if these families have 2, 3, 4 kids in different grades but they only have 1 computer???

Teachers are not social workers. They should not be expected to take on all of these roles.

The really frustrating part is teachers don't know how to use these apps like Google classroom or zoom or any of these apps.

Even if u have wifi but live in a poor neighborhood, you get a weak signal o nothing at all. I've been struggling with this, the internet company says its because of where "I live". Now imagine, those families who have 3-4 kids at different grade levels, it must be a nightmare. The best wifi signal isfor the upper class smh

My little one is in their 2nd year of school, 1ts grade. I’m so sad that my baby won’t be able to experience the first years of school and how fun it can be. Having been diagnosed with asthma/respiratory issues since birth, I can’t force myself to send my child to school. They started virtually August 13th 9am-10am and had to turn in their homework before 12pm. Music, art and PE had no virtual meets. In person school started September 7th. About 4 classmates stayed virtual and the rest in person. The teacher would be live while teaching class, same 9am-10am but in person were 8am-3:45pm. Not even 3 days after in person school started the teacher notified us that from now on all teachers will have to record the class and upload at the end of the day so that we could watch. They have yet to do that and only post the assignments/homework (only 3-4) and most are like an app that has work for them to do. And honestly, it’s like information that 4th graders would be learning. I teach everything I know and the ways I’ve learned, but it’s not so easy. So stressful for both, and I’m sure it is for others as well.
