The verdict:

🎙️Eh, it’s ok. Audio Mix is impressive but not nearly as high quality as I hoped. A little disappointed.

As much as I’d love to pare back my content creator setup even more, there’s still a little further to go before I give up the DJI Mic 2.

I love how the DJI Mic 2 is sooo plug and play. I get my settings dialed and then just don’t touch it. Can’t even remember the last time I charged this thing. For quick vertical videos like this, I don’t really do any post processing. I edit completely on the iPhone in CapCut. Will usually just boost the volume of individual clips. But audio is one of CapCut’s major shortcomings. It’s sooo difficult to gauge levels.

Am I 100% satisfied with my current setup? No. But it’s good enough for now. I am prioritizing frictionless content creation, which is a tedious pursuit haha but it’s what I have to do if I want to make anything while balancing the rest of life.

What do you think? Which mic setup sounds better?

As a music producer/engineer the stand alone microphone is better. This feature is actually inside of Apple Garage Band whenever you want to record your vocals. Keep in mind that if you record vocals in a room with crazy reverb, metal and no ceiling then you’re in trouble. If all else fails just record your vocals on the Apple voice memo app. It records at high quality 44.1 KHZ.

Does the iPhone 16 plus (non-pro) have the 4 studio quality microphone? How many microphones on the iPhone 16 plus?

There's no replacement for displacement, they say about car engines.

Use iPhone standard mode without any mix, I'm curious if it's about as good as the external.

Listening on a MacBook pro, the iPhone audio is not usable. All that money and sounds naff. Maybe a software update will improve, unless this is the cap of the quality on hardware.

well for the audio test on the phone you held it much further away from your face than you did the dji mic which you put right up to your mouth... that will make a HUGE difference in the sound you get out of mics.... redo this with both at same distance to get an accurate comparison.
