In Seattle we used to run diesel busses in what is now the Link transit tunnel under 3rd avenue. They had a special “hush mode” that would run on electric only when they were approaching and departing stations. It’s a great model that kept the exhaust fumes out of the passenger parts of the tunnels.

That’s actually a genius. Starting a car like that in the morning, and pissing off your neighbors is a genuine issue. (If you don’t believe me, well then go watch all of the YouTube videos showing the arguments sports car owners have with their neighbors specifically about this issue).

I won’t be surprised if a few years from now that comes standard (or at least is an option) on all new sports cars.
