Making Dollhouse Walls - Hallway (Part 1) - Misery E04

I love miniatures, but also horror movies!
So I decided to build my first dollhouse inspired by the movie “Misery” (by Stephen King). I’m building the house completely from scratch (with foam boards and cardboard).
This is not a tutorial. I’m new to the miniature world. So it’s more about experimenting, making mistakes and documenting my process.

In this video, I started working in the hallway (more specially the walls).
It was so much work! I had to make seven different panels.
So I decided to make a video only for that. Next time, I will make furniture.

First of all, wow!! You did an amazing job on the walls! I love how you designed a perfect match for the wallpapers, they look awesome! The texture and stencil for the lower half of walls is genius! It can be tricky to get the wallpaper on without bubbles, what I do is use a driver's license or credit card and GENTLY rub the bubbles as you're applying the paper to the walls, don't rub too hard or the paper will tear. I do this and also rub gently with a rag from middle to edges, to move the air out. I'm so glad some of your bubbles ended up going away. Don't stress too much that some are still there, just take your time and go slowly with rubbing it out first. After that I lay heavy books on and let the walls dry overnight. The next day, apply the topcoat of modpodge and your trims, then glue them onto the main walls. This is the best way to get rid of the bubbles. When you glue them to main walls, do the same kind of gentle rubbing, so no air is trapped under. I know this is more difficult because it's inside the house and not flat, but just do your best. I wanted to say I just love the way you did the trims as well, they look wonderful! The door turned out perfect, too. I'm so excited to see more videos, can't wait to see the furniture and accessories you make!!

Try Grandma Stovers glue-it’s a dollhouse glue that works really well. Since I started using it I haven’t had the bump problem. Can find it if you google it. I love watching how creative you are. 😊

Wow this is really turning out cool. I know it's been a lot of work and there's been some bumps along the way.

Pretty anxious to see how it's going to start looking with the furniture. It's already looking fabulous.

I had an idea for the walls and the bumps and I wasn't sure if it was a good idea or not cuz I've never tried it. But you've already glued them up so it's kind of not an option this time.. But I did ask Google what it thought about my idea and here's what it said for the future.

Hey Google could I use a steam iron to flatten bumps created from glueing 2 pieces of cardboard together? Should you run into this, maybe it's worth a try.

Yes, you can likely use a steam iron to smooth out bumps on a glued paper-cardboard piece, but proceed with caution and use a low heat setting to avoid damaging the paper or glue.

Here's why it might work:

Steam softens fibers:

The steam from the iron can slightly soften the paper fibers, allowing them to flatten out.

Gentle pressure:

By applying light pressure with the iron while moving it smoothly, you can help the bumps flatten.

Important considerations:

Protect the surface:

Always place a clean piece of cloth or parchment paper between the iron and your paper-cardboard to prevent direct contact and potential scorching.

Low heat setting:

Start with the lowest heat setting on your iron and gradually increase if needed.

Test first:

Test the iron on a small inconspicuous area of your paper-cardboard first to ensure the heat level is suitable.

Potential issues:

Glue damage: If the glue is not high quality or is too old, excessive heat might weaken it, causing the paper and cardboard to separate.

Paper warping: If you apply too much pressure or heat for too long, the paper could warp or wrinkle in other areas.
