not only are people in the south in general taught to say yes ma'am/no ma'am, but it's a MUST in southern dance teams. on my dance team if you dont say yes ma'am when youre given a correction or direction its considered disrespectful. its not "okay" or "mhm" it's "yes ma'am"

I'm from San Antonio Texas, and I was raised to say yes/no ma'am/sir. It's a sign of respect.

Yes Ma'am is a southern thing and it really cracks me up how fast the girls from parts of the country where it isn't used so much drink the "Yes Ma'am" Kool aid.

I'm from Louisiana and manners are a must.. I had a professor in college who considered saying yes ma'am an insult but I just couldn't break myself from saying it. If I ever heard my kids not saying yes ma'am/sir or no ma'am/sir, I'd be humiliated !!!
