In her talk, Allison MacDonald will explain what is quantum computing, what is it good for, and when are we going to see it in our phones (not soon). Allison completed her B.Sc. in physics at McMaster University, where she built a prototype for a satellite-based quantum cryptography system and searched for the Higgs boson at the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva, Switzerland. She then completed her M.Sc. at the University of Alberta, where she studied the interaction between laser light and tiny nanomechanical resonators at ultralow temperatures.
