The whole time reading "Ghost Map" I was thinking about making a video similar to this. But now I don't have to anymore, because you did it in such a good way, that I could not improve anything. Maybe I do one in German, but I will definitly put a link to this video!

I have a question, I am a veterinarian and I work a lot with ArcGIS. I want to calculate the displacement of a disease i.e. speed of propagation in km/time so I proceeded as follows:
-In the first step, I used the "Directional Distribution (Standard Deviational Ellipse)" test which allows having the ellipse of the outbreaks of each year then I calculated the center of each ellipse
- in the second step: I calculated the distance between the two centers of the two ellipses and considered the calculated distance as the distance of progress of the disease
I want to know and verify if this approach is logical and correct because I have not found such publications

Hi Richard - there are a couple of good sources for John Snow's GIS data - among them one from Yale University (I put the link in the description of the video).

I'd have to look at the metadata but I think this was what I started with when making the first tutorial, although similar data exists in various formats (including for R) elsewhere. I then took the dataset and did some work with it for the purposes of the tutorial.

Why it is better to used standard deviation ellipses rather than Geographic means to describe spatial patterns in data ??can any one please help me answer this question .
