Here's how to find unusual options activity easily. This is the beginning of a new portfolio series following unusual options trades in my tastyworks options trading account.

I would recommend to validate trades with the technicals before putting in a blind entry

Good info. I'd make small suggestions like making sure the last price is closer to the ask to indicate someone is probbaly buying. Also volume should be higher than open interest and the bid/ask spread shouldnt be really larger (get caught holding an option that you can't sell at a profi). Things I've noticed when trying this strategy. Also, you may want to stay away from large volume during an earnings report bc it could be someone rolling a position or closing a position and not necessarily indicative of a directional view which is why looking to see who is buying is more important (last price traded is the ask price).

So how do you know that these trades are not spread trades from different months and how do you know if they're not being sold, or a part of some multi leg strategy because if you don't know you're just throwing your money away.

Hi Michael, thanks for great content. Can I ask why you switched from robinhood to tasty works?

You need to determine if the unusual option activity is on the bid or the ask. So you need to do a little work before blindly placing a trade. It could be the other half of a spread or something.

thank you so much for the new ideas/concepts about trading.
i almost blew my account. i am down 57% now. i made a very stupid/high risk play that failed. i will stick to my usual trading strategies from now on, hopefully i would be up, even if by 1%, by next vid.
learning and gaining experience is hard in this field.

How do you know whether or not that unusual option was a buy or a sell? Someone could have been selling options in an effort to hedge a losing position or been the opposite side of a calendar spread for example. It seems assuming that they were buying calls as opposed to selling calls.

I’ve had bad luck with some of my unusual option shorter term plays...it really just comes down to movement on expiration week and I’m like 50% successful whether I choose a call or put. In the end it’s balancing out but I want profits! Lol

Cool video Mathew. I've been wanting to try this myself. I need to learn a little more about it first. I hope you crush it!
