The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising—the largest Jewish-led armed rebellion during World War II—began #OTD in 1943. For almost a month, ghetto inhabitants fought off their Germans captors, hid in bunkers, and resisted deportation.

During the uprising, Estelle Laughlin hid with her family in a bunker. They were eventually discovered and deported to the Lublin-Majdanek concentration camp, where Estelle's father was murdered. Estelle, her mother, and her older sister survived the Holocaust.

Ms. Laughlin's use of vocabulary to describe the reality of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising almost makes the listener feel like they are experiencing the terror along with her.

Its sad to think soon there will no more survivors from this time.
Unbelievable part of history.

The survivors are the most incredible, courageous people on the planet. Unimaginable what they had to endure, witness, and live with the memories of. The trauma and loss are immeasurable. Never again.

We can't let these people be disregarded or worse, forgotten.

This beautiful woman described horror in such vivid detail that I could picture the scene so clearly. These people endured the unimaginable…. All innocent people who live through war in the places they live and work deserve our prayers and support when at all able.

This is what needs to be taught in schools. Relaying the real life tragedies that were endured by these people simply for existing. I’ve studied this period of time several times throughout my life; I didn’t truly feel the pain until I heard a survivor speak his truth. You can see the anguish in their eyes, hear the catches in their throat as they speak about a loved one so callously ripped away from them. This is where true history lies.
