Notice the switch they do at the beginning of Christmas Eve's section. Since the puppeteer who plays Princeton is the same one that plays Rod, he has to switch puppets. So Nicky's two puppeteers split up and one of them takes the Rod puppet, freeing John Tartaglia to switch to the Princeton puppet.
