Are Mitutoyo Calipers REALLY Waterproof?

Absolutely the best calipers I’ve ever owned. I’ve had starrets brown & sharp… but out of all of the ones I’ve had these are the only ones that don’t get absolutely wrecked by the slightest bit of moisture…

i found a pair of the 6 in ones in the bottom of a fanuc robodrill at work last week. God knows how long they had been swimming in the flood coolant but they still worked like a charm.

I have those same calipers and I love them I’ve gotten them super sticky with coolant a few times and I just rinse them at the wash station and they’re good as new

I have an analogue Mitutoyo. Bought it used, on a flee market about 15 years ago. I still trust it, especially for my needs (hobby).

Fun fact. The Olight Baton Gen 1 is also coolant proof. I found one in a coolant tank. I have no idea how long it's been there, but it worked and the battery is dry.

I‘m working for a company that it‘s main business is to drill deep holes and all those machines run on oil as coolent, so our calipers get in touch with a lot of oil. The problem isn‘t that they are not seal, it‘s the resistance of the glue on the display and the foil that protects the scale itself. Mitutoyo, tesa, hoffman, none of them were consistend…

still waiting for them to make a 12" waterproof caliper with carbide i.d. jaws and o.d. jaws. they only make carbide waterproof up to 8"
