Ofqual suspends A-levels appeals policy

It's expected there will be a huge uptake in appeals after nearly 40 percent of those meant to take their A-Levels - around 280,000 students - had their projected results downgraded.

Ofqual has released a statement saying the criteria it had previously published for students hoping to use their mock exams in their appeal is now "being reviewed".

The lucky ones are the ones that went from D to A*, now that's impressive.

Is it me or is our country currently in Chaos? I don't mean to be political but we've the highest per capita rate of Covid in the world, the biggest recession ever in the UK, Education in Chaos. Aren't we in crisis here?

I feel like these students should really be getting the benefit of the doubt

Surely the teachers would have a realistic expectation of the students grades? What a complete shambles this algorithm is.

Absolutely disgusting that an algorithm can decide the future opportunits of so many of youth, Gavin Whilimson needs to resign, as should Michael Gove as he is the one who got rid of modular A levels. Had he not there would have been no need to for this convoluted grading strategy. Yet another tory mess up

Whoever decided to use this ridiculous algorithm clearly isn't smart enough to pass A-level

We all need to do something about this as a parent this is disgusting to see young people having the door smashed into their faces surely they should have just used teachers predicted grades for this year

What makes it all worse is those dumb people who did quite or unusually well in a mock paper (a very limited subject area and scope of question ) come out of this with grades that makes them look good and that will get then into better institutions than they should be at - they will struggle....

Some people are complaining that they got a D, but it's probably that some were predicted a D, not everyone went from A* to D, but it seems everyone is complaining anyway.

Tbh, the students weren't able to sit the exams, they should be happy with what result they got. They can always do the exam later in the year. The whole world have had to sacrifice something, whether it be a course, or a job or something else. I think 100% of students should have been downgraded, at least it would be fair.

Yeah sure give them the grade when they don't know or understand, that's brilliant for our future.

Imagine some people suciding because of this not every one is powerful to carry on and survive this after such a hard work(including me)

So now the Algorithm is making the decisions.
In another words. The Artificial Intelligence (AI) is making the decisions who is downgraded.
