To be fair, Uncharted 3’s mythical twist was basically just acid. And aside from that, any game that gets me to cry in worry for the characters doesn’t need a twist.

Uncharted 4’s ending is 10 times more emotional than any ending of the previous games, and the build up to it was fantastic

I genuinely like the ending of the game. While the supernatural elements of the previous games where certainly great. Uncharted 4s story just feels the most grounded to me. Even with all of the ghost pirate build up, I feel that there would have been quite of a last minute tonal shift.

Admittedly, it can be seen as “cop out ” because they didn’t do anything magical or mythological but at the same time, Nathan was just looking for Pirate Treasure. Pirate treasure is not really the same thing as Shambala or El Dorado. The real issue with the treasure was that it fueled the greed of the villain and how Nathan & Sam wanted to best him.

In Golden Abyss, the gold they found was radioactive so it’s not like Uncharted was always about finding magical items.

While I was upset I didn’t get to fight some ghost pirates, I’m glad I still got to participate in an epic sword fight!

The mythical twist is a continuation of Drake’s insane jumping ability in the form of the grappling hook

The fact that the last game had a world wide scavenger hunt, pirate government conspiracies, and one crazy maniac searching for the grave of another is really impressive to tie in with all the weird shit the series had prior, especially the zombie segment in Part 1

I'm actually glad they did this, I always thought that the mythological stuff in uncharted was its worst aspect and often got in the way of both the gameplay and storytelling

I never got the feeling that there was build up to ghost pirates. Just the obsession of the treasure. And I actually like that there is no supernatural twist at the end. It was a refreshing change of pace.

This game wasn’t 1 bit disappointing it was amazing and a perfect ending to the series
