This is the best version. Gritty, dusty, raw, perfectly balanced... transition chords are more fluid than in later more metallic versions. Timeless. A masterpiece.

The metamorphosis of Joy Division survivors into New Order is certainly one of the most intriguing and haunting of all stories in music. There are miracles here among the tragedy!

The older I get, the more New Order and Joy Division music grows on me. They were way ahead of their times, not only when it comes to music, but lyrics too. RIP Ian.

I watched Peter Hook and the Light last weekend and they played this as their third last song (Transmission and then Love Will Tear Us Apart followed). The way the crowd responded made my heart sing and there was some real sadness and emotion when he sang "where did he go?".
Tearing up again just thinking about how Peter sang that line.

This is why events unnerve me,
They find it all, a different story,
Notice whom for wheels are turning,
Turn again and turn towards this time,
All she ask's the strength to hold me,
Then again the same old story,
Word will travel, oh so quickly,
Travel first and lean towards this time.
Oh, I'll break them down, no mercy shown,
Heaven knows, it's got to be this time,
Watching her, these things she said,
The times she cried,
Too frail to wake this time.
Oh, I'll break them down, no mercy shown,
Heaven knows, it's got to be this time,
Avenues all lined with trees,
Picture me and then you start watching,
Watching forever, forever,
Watching love grow, forever,
Letting me know, forever.

What a time that was. Pure magic. God the music was so genuine. You can't describe it to anyone. I've tried. But you just had to be there.
I went to see a Bad Manners in Toronto at this punk bar Larrys Hideaway. In january. Minus 25 out side. Bar was packed. The show was red hot fun. Packed to the rafters with people dancing. We all danced up a storm. When we left full of sweat, the entire audience spilled out onto the street steaming in the cold, in cardigans, white shirts and ties, girls in houndstooth mini skirts. No fights. No bullshit. Just this...fun. Awesome.

I was 14 when living in a small town in North Appalachia when i I fell in love with this band. Soul warming, thanks.

Nothing brings back those beautiful, ethereal times like this song. Thank you, New Order.

The hauntingly beautiful black and white images elevate the sublime music into something overwhelming and cathartic, for me at least. A stroke of genius.

Barney's meticulous guitar work here made this the supreme send off it was intended to be. Never forgetting Hannett's genius touch here

My favourite of all time. Amazing, so much lyrical and musical emotion, love the song structure. This is what I consider a perfect song.
