Check out the rarest cat breeds in the world! This top 10 list of bizarre and exotic cat species has some of the most amazing and expensive domesticated animals on the planet!

14. Serval
Let's start off with easily one of the most exotic cats out there, the Serval. You'd be forgiven for not knowing about this special cat, as it's from Africa. But what I told you that the Serval is actually pretty popular in the US as a pet? It's true.

13. Peterbald
Here's a unique cat that will make you do a double take. the Peterbald are a species of cat that are found mostly in Russia, and have a trait of not having hair. So they're quite literally bald cats. Though, to be fair, not all of them are bald, some do get hair, but they do often lose it.

12. Korat
Though cats are accepted in most cultures in the world, that doesn't mean they don't get their fair share of superstitions attached to them. A black cat for example can be viewed as bad luck, but also, there are good luck cats. One of which is the Korat.

11. Caracals
Heading back to the exotic kinds of cats, the Caracals is one that is both stunning to look at, and is very interesting in terms of how it acts. You see, Caracals are a type of Lynx, another exotic cat that has been known to have some aggressive tendencies at times. Because of this, you might think that the Caracals are the same , but you would be wrong.

10. The Norwegian Forest Cat
Here's a cat story you might like. The Norwegian Forest Cat is a breed of cat that is very popular in Europe. However, during World War II, this particular cat was almost made extinct. It survived however due to the efforts of the Norwegian Forest Cat Club.

9. Serengeti
Sometimes, you're not born into the world an original, you're created, and cats have been breed that way for a long time believe it or not. A great example of this is the Serengeti. This species is a recent addition to the cat world, as they were "developed" in the 1990's by crossing the Bengal and Oriental Shorthair species.

8. Ocelot
Ocelot's are one of the more known exotic species of cats in the world. Mainly because they're gorgeous, and people have tried to make them pets for quite some time...with mixed results. Have you ever seen Archer? Yeah, that's a good example of how not to raise an Ocelot.

7. Ragamuffin
While this may have an odd name, the Ragamuffin is surprising unique in terms of other cats. This particular breed was only recognized in 2003, but has taken the cat world by storm since then. It's a mix of specials including the Ragdoll and certain breeds of street cat, but when you look and touch its fur and see its eyes, it's clear how special it is.

6. Geoffroy's Cat
From a rather big domestic cat to a very small exotic one, let's talk about Geoffroy's Cat. No, this isn't a cat owned by a specific person, but a whole species, and one that measure in as one of the smallest cats on Earth, to the extent that when they're fully grown they only weight at max eight pounds.

5. California Spangled
Developed in the US at the "urging" of anthropologist Louis Leaky, the California Spangled is now one of the rarest cats in the world today. Proving that even cat breeds can go out of style.
As you can see, the California Spangled was made to resemble the cats of Africa.

4. British Shorthair
It's well known that cats live long lives, and have been around for a VERY long time. But this species is one of the oldest known cat breeds ever, the British Shorthair. This cat is so revered in the UK that it's inspired many things, not the least of which was the look of the Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland. Plus, it's the most pedigreed breed in the country.

3. Turkish Van
This one deserves a special spot on my list because of its unique fur and personality. Anyone who's raised a cat knows that though they drink water, they don't bathe in it, right? And only jungle cats will swim in water, right? Wrong! Meet, the Turkish.

2. Egyptian Mau
Another cat that looks like a jungle cat, the Egyptian Mau is unique because its spots are actually natural to it. No breeding or development required. But that's only the start of what makes this cat so special.

1. Bombay
If you have been paying attention, you'll have noticed that people really want miniaturized versions of wild big cats like Lynxs, bobcats, jaguars, lions, etc. Another cat that people have apparently wanted to "miniaturize" is the panther. And because of that, the Bombay was breed.

Taming an ocelot isn’t that hard... You just have to sneak up on it and right-click it with a fish.

Whoever wrote this doesn't know the difference between a breed and a species.

Annie was an Ocicat who raised several of my Siamese kittens. She was kind, gentle and unassuming, but the food dish was HERS and everyone else would back up to give her room. Her place was curled up next to my pillow to keep an eye on me and safe from harm. I had her for about 17 years.

My ex got rid of our 🐈 claiming the cat was getting more attention then her 😳. Moral of story I left her shortly after that

Ex norvegian forest cat owner here 👋. I had one. She was tinier than most basic house cats, even tought they are mostly bigger. She died at a glorious age of 21. She was like a gueen. So majestetic and calm. Could be also the age of her. She was In the end mostly blind, deaf, and her fur got really thin, but I loved her still so so so mutch. She was with me since I was 6yo. RIP my gueen ❤️

My Bombay absolutely loves taking walks on her leash/harness. She has a very easy going attitude and yes, their eyes are absolutely hypnotic. We are obsessed with our mini house panther and she has our family wrapped around her tiny paws. ❤🐈‍⬛❤

Something about hearing people talk about “developing” an animal doesn’t sit right with me

I had an bombay 4 years ago and he was so special to me, so I havn't been able to get a new cat yet. He was so intelligent. Opened doors and wardrobes. He could sit on command, and do tricks. He understood everything you said to him. He would just sit and look into my eyes. Very quiet. Never said a pip. He knew when I was in pain and exactly were, so he would lay on me and take away the pain. He was special and are forever in my heart.😪 ❤️But I love all of them. I have heard about all of them except the Geoffrey's cat. If i could i would have all the cats in the world. Bless you 😇 ❤️ 🙏

This was clearly made by a dog owner because cats are amazing.

I have an Egyptian Mau. The Mau is a very rare breed, and consider myself very fortunate to have him. You describe his characteristics to a "T". Being a male, he weighs 11 lbs, is long and slim, with those long hind legs which give him a "rake" with the taller hind quarters. He's very kind, loving, and smart.

Dr. Evil's cat was a Sphynx, not a Peterbald

I had a Norwegian Forest Cat for almost 20 years - as the only female of the litter, no one wanted her, so I ended up taking her myself. I've never been as bonded with an animal as I was that cat. Someone actually stole her and she was gone for 4 months. I was certain she was dead and gone - until I came home from class one afternoon and heard a very familiar meow coming from the bushes. It took her almost half a year, but she came back to me and was always waiting for me to come home from that day forward. Even though she had been fed, groomed, and obviously taken care of by her impromptu new owners, she knew who she belonged to. On another occasion I had a bad case of bronchitis that left me bedridden for over a week. My Norwegian Forest Cat spent all of her time with me, cuddling up beside me and never left my bed except to eat and use the litter box. Despite being an outdo0r cat, she never begged to go outside while I was sick. It wasn't until I was on my feet again when she began exhibiting her usual behavior of wanting to go outside. She used to walk with me the four blocks to a nearby convenience store -- until we came to a busy and dangerous intersection. She refused to cross that street and instead would sit down on the sidewalk and wait for me to return -- and I always found her sitting like a little sphinx, her front paws together in a wonderfully lady-like pose. Then she would walk with me back to the house. She had a good life, but unfortunately developed cancerous tumors in her stomach, so at age 19 we had to put her down -- one of the saddest days of my life. The look she gave me just before the vet injected her was a look I will never forget. She seemed to know what I was doing and, even more to the point, seemed almost grateful that I was ending her pain. If you can get your hands on a Norwegian Forest Cat, I highly reccommend it, for they bond with one owner and only one, hence, you feel strangely privileged to have such a cat in your life; their love is genuine, their desire to be with you and no one else stems from true loyalty and caring. Just thinking about her now makes my eyes mist over. She was something special.

I've actually had both a Norwegian Forest cat and an Egyptian Mau. The Mau's vocalizations are something you really have to hear to believe. They don't sound like normal cats at all. Mine had a language of sorts as she used specific vocalizations for specific things. It was very easy to tell what she wanted or was asking for. She was also incredibly intelligent and trainable. She was easily the most affectionate and social animal I've ever encountered. Fully grown she was around 5lbs. and was super small even for the breed.

Unfortunately, she had a heart defect and due to health complications from that she only lived 5 years.

My cat abandoned our house a couple of weeks later we found out he was cheating on us with a second family... About a month later, we found a captured his daughter she looks just like him and acts the same she is not allowed outside for some reason her dad fights her every time he sees her.
