Fighting Peer Pressure (The Life of Samuel, Part 5 - 1 Sam. 8) - The Broadman Word for 8/15/2023

As we continue on with the life of Samuel, we come to the moment in Israel's history where they have caved into the desire to have a human king. They have rejected the Lord as their king and want to be like everyone else. Instead of giving in immediately, Samuel brings the peer pressure to the Lord. The Lord does allow the people have what they want, but it is clear that He does so with fatherly discipline and eventually restoration in mind. When you and I face peer pressure, it is important to remember that we should turn to the Lord through prayer and recall that He is always the King of our life, since we are followers of Jesus. On Thursday, we will see how Samuel and the Lord go about choosing the first king of Israel. See you then!
