Today’s how to hair tutorial is a French twist hair stick hairstyle. You can create this easy hair stick tutorial using a hair pin, pencil, pen, hair pin, or French pin. This ‘90s updo is also a great Rachel Green hair tutorial, she was the inspiration for this look. I loved how minimal and effortless this hairstyle was and how it can be recreate on medium and long hair lengths. I hope you enjoy and give this hairstyle a try. Tips for How To Use Hair Sticks/Hair Pins:

1. Ensure your hairstyle includes a tight twist.
2. When inserting your hair stick, make sure it’s parallel to your head.
3. Grab enough hair for it to feel tight as you flip.
4. Wiggle your hair stick as you push it along your scalp.
5. Allow the end to go out the other side of your twist/style for a more secure hold, rather than staying along your scalp.
6. Securing quickly will create a tighter finish.
7. Practice; it will take a few tries to get the hang of it, so try not to get discouraged.

How to Recreate French Twist Hair Stick Hairstyle:

• Begin by gathering your hair into a low ponytail with your right hand.
• Tightly wrap the base of your ponytail up and over your index and middle finger on your left hand to the right.
• Tightly twist your fingers to the left one full turn as you bring them to the top of your head, giving it a half twist to hide your ends.
• Keep your left hand in place as you slide your hair stick part way through your twist and out through the right side, so it’s parallel to your head.
• Push the tip against your head as you flip the stick to the right; you should feel tension, if not try inserting again through more hair.
• Wiggle and push the stick against your head to connect your twist to your head until it comes out the left side of your twist. And you want your end to go out of your twist rather than staying against your scalp.
• Your twist should feel very secure. If not, practice; it can take a few tries to get the hang of it, so try not to get discouraged.

Nice- my first try isn’t perfect but it’s good enough to leave up while I’m just hanging out at home lol.

If you’re having trouble, watch the whole video first, then set up a hand mirror (or even your phone, using the front camera) on something so you can put your back to a mirror and see what you’re doing. Play the video on half speed so you can follow along. I have hip length hair and I was able to get it up with the method. It’s going to take some practice to twist it enough to get the ends in and keep it looking neat, but I’m terrible with hair and my first try turned out pretty good, so I give this two thumbs up!

If you have trouble doing your own hair like me, I highly recommend investing in a mirror on an arm that mounts on the wall, if that’s at all possible in your living situation. Not only does it keep my vanity table less cluttered, but I don’t have to lean down to look at a closer mirror, and I just have to swing the arm back and turn my chair around to see the back of my head. It’s so useful to check if the back of my style looks ok, or for styles that require working in the back.
