4:00 Just a tip for all the trolls: Protec 2 core cannot be open while the key is removed unless you remove specific parts from the lock (either sidebar from the core or the ballbearings inside the shackle locking mechanism). The shackle *cannot be open* while they key is out of the lock if all parts are there. And displaying that all the parts are there is why the lock is getting gutted without cut in the video.

Literally the only way to have complete Protec 2 lock open without a key inside is to rebuild it as already opened or to actually pick it.

Where there is hiding, there is deception. Simple as that. Show everything, unedited and maybe then I’ll believe it.

Very interesting. Though you know the insides of your lock. I doubt this would be as easy if you tried to pick someone elses lock you don't have the key for.

Truly awe inspiring. Well worth the run time of both videos. Congratulations on your astounding achievement. 👍

Theoretically, what you are doing is possible, but the minimum you need to know about this padlock is the CODE of the key.. if you don't know it and you don't know the angles of the discs - it's a total failure! Time, time, time, passes.. You can tickle this padlock long and well! Yes, let's not forget that despite all this, the padlock is easier to open than the euro cylinder). Abloy knows what he's doing!

Great job😜! Which is why Abloy claims their Protec2 is _virtualy_ impossible to pick, they never claim it _is_ impossible to pick. Only a handful of extremely clever lock-pickers (like this guy) can pick these locks and out of nearly 8 Billion people I am still confident that my Abloys(protec, protec2 and novel) are very very secure indeed. Apart from Angle grinders of course.

That’s awesome that you got that open!
By the way, you said you needed a good challenge, try picking an EVVA MCS. I think there’s only a couple people in the world that can do it.

I think the steel spacers have different width because Abloy has invented that they can differentiate the disk depth (offset from the tip of the key), too, and they use steel for narrower spacers. I'm not sure if this is supposed to increase the security of the lock when the attacker supposedly doesn't know the exact locations of the disks or if it's just yet another way to create "exclusive" key profiles.

So the keyway blocking component you pushed out the way at the beginning, is that what Huxley Pig was doing at the beginning of his video covering with his hand?

Sorry for daft questions as I'm brand new to lock sport. I just bought some bits from LPL store and I got my first £5 padlock open today which was just awesome 🙂

Your video is really cool! from what I can tell this is one of the most, if not the most difficult core to pick in any padlock ever! 🙂👌

How can you tell if you are in the true gate on the abloy classic locks when the true gates seem the same as the false gates.

I know you don't speak about the details of the tip but can you rotate each disk in both orientations? If I've understood correctly, the pick that huxleypig69 used was able to rotate each disc in one direction only (either clockwise or counterclockwise) which obviously makes picking much harder.

Excellent work buddy 👍 I only know two ways to get in an abloy. The Key, and the big key 🤣
Stay safe and have a great week buddy 🤘😎

Hi Tarehjerne Tarehjerne, many thanks for the very informative video! Have you heard of nitric acid attacks to "melt the innards" of locks? May I ask how well you think this works on a protec2? TY&KR

Good job nice pick. Id love to see that pick tip... my plan was to use the tip of a key and braze it to a rod.

Hello everyone, i would like to hear your opinion about somethimg.

i am concerned about design of abloy protec 2's sidebar. I own 358 and when i checked the core i noticed that sidebar is very thin. Also, 90% of sidrbar wasnt even spported by solid brass. Mostly disk spacers were holding it in place. After couple years of rusting, already thin sidebar may additionaly deteriate and weaken.
I am afraid that this (in my opinion) weak design makes it suspectible to torquing-the-core attack (someone could put flathead scrwdiver bit in wrench and start torquing the lock until it or bit brakes).
I am really concerned and would really appreciate hearing your opinions.
Thank you for your time.

P.S. sorry for grammar, i am not native speaker.

Brass deforms under pressure easier than steel does, the steel disks are to help prevent the insertion of a tool that torques the lock and deforms the disks... I believe

Thanks for explaining how to bypass the DBS! If I understood correctly, you tension from the "interactive" parts and do not need to apply any torque to parts that would lock the DBS mechanism. Instead the ball bearing stack pushes so hard towards the sides of the interactive actuator it doesn't slip and the interactive actuator is not freely spinning. Then how do you do avoid DBS with Protec 1 where you cannot use the same method?
