How ironic, haha. I bought a fog machine last week for my music video shoots I had last weekend. The fog made everything look 100x times cooler. Seriously, everyone should get one, they're awesome! :3

Love love love this episode, the new shirt, and the wristbands! The Spielberg style of fog really creates a nice stylistic look. I will definitely be trying this one!

FYI: hazers are generally heavier than most fog machines so for light setups I'd still go for fog machine.  Also you can use straight up Mineral Oil from the grocery store in a hazer.  That being said, if ran long enough you'll end up with a thin layer of moisture on your gear at the end of the shoot so be prepared to bring some cleaning equipment before you pack it all up.

Not usually one to buy in impulse, but I just had to get the "Write Shoot Edit Repeat" shirt. I'm so glad the slogan is now on a thing I can wear on my body!

Stu Maschwitz mentions using fog in "The DV rebel's guide".
really cool to see a full breakdown.
I once used fog on a film of mine, added a lot of atmosphere and menace to what really was just a shed.

Very good episode. I didn't like the fog in the Adobe example to be honest (not all the shots at least, sometimes it was ok). It's not subtle enough and at first it looks like somebody burned a dinner there. The Spielberg thing though... brilliant. Flashlight beams look awesome. I did a music video for my band with a fog machine. We had a guitarist in an old and dirty room, lots of fog, and the light was shining only through a cracked window just behind him. It was surreal. When I saw the image in camera monitor I went nuts - that's like an instant movie look. One of the best memories in my life I think : )

Ryan, I really love your show but may I give you a strong suggestion, by the way I learned this at my job which is producing videos. I noticed that when you play music it overpowers the level of your voice. I was taught to keep everything around the same level so that people watching and listening trough headphones won't have to play with the volume switches when listening to the dynamic volume changes of your show. Just something I noticed, I hope it helps. Keep it up!!!

Hazers DO NOT trigger fire alarms. Had a hazer running in a closed room for more than 5 hours/day until It's impossible to see anything, and never triggered the alarm. You can see how much haze I had in the first video on my channel.

Yo film riot! I gots a question!
1) When time isn't of the upmost concern, how do you know when your project is finished? (I always feel there is something I can do but never know what)
2) How long do you usually spend on a single shot? When filming with my friends, they are begin to complain when a shot is taking too long (mostly the setting up part) How long does it take to get your lights in the right spot/ how do you know when they are?
I would love a response! Thank ya!

Also, if you need to find a fog machine and there aren't any at party stores near you, Guitar Center has them as well. :)

AWESOME video! I love how you creatively use your house for different pieces.  I always chuckle when you guys say, "CUE-pon, " though. It's "COO-pon." LOL
