Lets also keep in mind that BTS are this big while also making music that's predominately in Korean. I don't think people how hard it is to achieve worldwide success when you sing/rap in a language that's not common. I'm not trying to downplay One Direction's success but because they sang in English it gave them a huge advantage over groups that don't.

Both bands are very successful, its just that 1D disbanded very fast, but both are iconic and unforgettable bands, i really love both of them

One direction is a boyband but BTS isn't. Just because it's a group of guys in a group doesn't mean they are a boyband. It's more like a group of musicians making music together, while 1D aren't making music TOGETHER, they are handed their music by a label, forced to sing it and have no artistic identity in their group at all. U can't feel any individual color of each member in their group the same way everyone does with BTS, they feel like clones of each other, sing exactly the same way, production is totally the same on every song, while BTS changes it up depending on each member's taste and INDIVIDUALLY speak about personal experiences in their lyrics and write their own. Very different. If BTS is a boyband the Beatles are too. 1D is more like backstreet boys and NSYNC, while BTS more Beatles and black boyband's, in terms of artistic integrity.
