Attempted to Remake an Antique Whiskey Box (How did they do that?!)

I have an antique wood whiskey box that I think looks really cool! The customer would buy a bottle of whiskey, which came in a beautiful wooden box. From my research, I believe it was made in the 1950s. It looks really cool, especially the stamps on it. So I decided to try to build a replica version of the box.

It’s an antique so the condition makes it difficult to see all the details. That caused a lot of setbacks. Plus, it made me find pictures online of other wooden boxes to get a better idea of how it was constructed and the details of the stamps. All said and done, I am blown away at it! I really love how it turned out. I never expected such a spur of the moment idea to turn into one my favorite projects ever.

Very cool. Making small objects accurately is more difficult than making large items.👍🏻

Cool video. This Coat of Arms looks Bavarian. Maybe originally they used an Octoberfest beltbuckle to make the stamp (I think I saw something like this somewhere)? Or maybe some family relations in that direction from the distillery?

There was a Calvert distillery near my home west of Baltimore for many years. It is now a bottling plant for Diageo and Guinness.

The fun thing is that original box looked just like the new one you made all those years ago

I like it! Fun project. Now ……. Can you make a bottle of blender whiskey to go in the box?

Thanks for the video! There's a huge market out there for old boxes like the one you reproduced. Any tips on how to distress them to look older?
While we're on the subject of boxes, would love to see something on boxes with concealed compartments. Thanks again!

Any plans to add a finish to the box or just let age naturally ?

Love this project. I might have to give this a try sometime. A box like this would make a great gift, especially with a bottle in it 😁

The blade used to cut the finger joints might have been a 4mm kerf blade. Just a quick look around on Google and I found them no problem but I'd probably use a ⅛" or maybe even a router table.

Fantastic work, Billy! Really well done! 😃
What kind of foam did you use? Was it EVA? Because I've already thought about it, I just don't know if EVA would work...
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

Very cool build!

Wait, there's rubber you can laser to make a stamp?! I knew you could cut rubber with a laser, but didn't know you could make a relief design.

What would one search for to find the special rubber and settings for software?

Your box is better than the original. How long did it take you?
