Time4MultilevelAction Dialogue: a Multilevel and Multigenerational Europe

The urgency and depth of the climate challenges that the world is facing require prompt and impactful actions. All hands on deck are needed to deliver the scale and scope of measures needed to keep the global temperature raise below 1.5C and limit the effect of climate change. At the same time, the transition needed to implement these solutions must be planned, and needs to take into account social and economic effects on our societies, including the most vulnerable communities.

This will require coordination and integrated approaches ensuring direct participation of citizens and effective multilevel governance, which now more than ever become a set of fundamental ingredients for a successful and timely delivery.

Governments worldwide are increasingly recognizing the importance of designing a trans-departmental and multi-stakeholder climate action with a particular attention on the new generations that recently had a growing role in mainstreaming climate action and demanding effective, timely solutions to local and national governments.

This 90-min session brings to the table all these actors, including youth representatives, as well as national and local policy makers, to share an outlook on possible future governance and organizational structures. Through several rounds of discussion, the session will discuss measures and actions already being implemented to move toward a multi-level and multi-generational governance, and bring forward ideas on the next steps needed to ensure fairer more inclusive climate action.

The moderator will ask panelists to address the following questions:
How do you see your context (city, nation, institution) in 20 years from now? Who are the actors involved and how are relations among them? (4 min statement by each speaker)
What should be done now in order to reach that future?
Share an example of what is already ongoing to make this happen.
