Why are platformers not getting decent review scores anymore? Seriously, holy shit, from Ducktales Remastered to Yoshi's Woolly World to Yooka Laylee to this...

Didn't sound like a 7.1 review to me.

Grinding is absolutely not necessary unless you want to collect every useless item.

the words make you think 8-8.5, that 7.1 score feels out of left field

Dear Capcom,
please hire these guys to remaster the classic Mega Man series.

7.1 is criminally low score for such a polished and incredibly built game. I'm loving it on the Switch. There's virtually nothing wrong.

2:05 Here's a tip then - if you reload, chests besides the ones with heart pieces reset so you can keep going to them instead of grinding on enemies. The best ones are the sphinx and the intro castle ones.
But you also don't *need* any of the more expensive shop items to reach a boss fight, you just get that gear if you find the game too hard or if you want to sequence break.

This beautuful game deserves an 8 at least. They made a great remake of one of the best metroidvanias ever and for me, the best Master System game so far!! This remake gave the original game justice. 7.1??? Is abit too low. TOO LOW.

"Forcing us to grind for randomly drop items becomes tedious"
Come on man, this shit is the shit that has been standarized precisely these last years. I hope you don't review Destiny 2 "for instance".

7/10. Really. I thought 8 would be just right. Not many games from that era can hold up as well as this one.

This game is a BEAST! 😄 Such a brilliant remake! A must play for any oldschool fan.

Amaizing retro switch mechanic, faithful to the briliant original, good platoforming, soundtrack, level design and graphics. Buuut it has grinding, therefore it's 7.1

I got the game, give it a 9. The grind I think is great. Don't know why that would be a problem. Look at dark souls / bloodborne

High above the mucky-muck, castle made of clouds,
There sits Wonderboy, sitting oh so proudly.
Not much to say when you're high above the mucky-muck.
Yeah, yeah.
Wonderboy, what is the secret of your power?
Wonderboy, won't you take me far away from the mucky-muck man?
Now it's time for me to tell you about Young Nastyman,
archrival and nemesis of Wonderboy, with powers comparable to Wonderboy.
What powers you ask? I dunno how 'bout the power of flight?
That do anything for ya? That's levitation, holmes.
How 'bout the power to kill a yak from 200 yards away...
with mind bullets! That's telekinesis, Kyle.
How 'bout the power to move you?
History of Wonderboy and Young Nastyman,
Riggah-goo-goo, riggah-goo-goo.
A secret to be told, a gold chest to be bold,
And blasting forth with three-part harmony, yeow!
Wonderboy, what is the secret of your power?
Wonderboy, won't you take me far away from the mucky-muck man?
Well, Wonderboy and Young Nastyman joined forces;
they formed a band the likes of which have never been seen,
and they called themselves Tenacious D. That's right,
Me! And KG!
We're now Tenacious D!
Come fly with me, fly!

Wonderboy, what is the secret of your power?
Wonderboy, won't you take me far away from the mucky-muck man,
Oh!
Take my hand!
Young Nastyman, and we'll fly!
Bring out your broadsword.
There's the hydra.
Slice his throat!
And grab his scroat.
You take the high road,
I'll take the low.
There, the crevasse,
Fill it with your mighty juice.

7.1 is harsh. I just finished this game for the second time (I think I was 9 the first time). This game is something special. Being able to switch seamlessly between original and updated graphics is a testament to how this game holds up thirty years later. Why change mechanics? Too bad you have to “grind”. I always enjoyed going back to an area that I had struggled with earlier in the game with my new equipment and utterly devastating the enemies around me. Dragon’s Trap is flat out fun to play. This game was a technical achievement for its time and extremely underrated for decades. Why change now I guess. This is the perfect piece of nastalgia to help hold me over until season three of Stranger Things.
Also, quick tip if no one wants to “grind”. Once your Hawk Man you can fly right to the original castle from the beginning of the game. Go to the room where you fought the first dragon and get a ton of coin from a chest. Defeat all of the enemies in here and get the legendary sword and armor for free as drops. Come up the exit at the well. Instead of getting out of the well, go to the left inside of it and press up for a secret door where you can buy the legendary shield.

Looks like a lot of fun! The way you were explaining it and such I was expecting at least an 8, kinda surprised with the 7.1 score lol

That's a pretty low score. The game is perfect. "frustrating 80's mechanics"? How old are the reviewer? 12 years old?

If you liked Shantae on the VITA - you will like this. Glad to finally get something to play (and worth the price) on the Switch.
