When the boy cries in the washroom after he heard everything, it really breaks my heart. Pls parents do watch this movie. How difficult parents made his life to live.

A great film that explores what can happen in your adult life as a parent if you never experienced love as a child by your own parents and how that shapes you as a human being.

Russians actors are highly underrated. I wish Hollywood would hire Russians to play Russians instead of hiring British actors to play Russians in Russian roles. Hollywood is so blind. There are so many great, talented Russians talents whom many of us here in the West don't know about. I would love to see Andrey get the chance to direct a Hollywood film.

This trailer really doesn't even come close to showing just how horrible the main husband and wife characters are. I would be amazed if anyone could find any redeeming quality in either of them. They are completely self absorbed, selfish and uncaring. I was never once convinced that either one of them truly cared about their son's disappearance. A very good film depicting the lives of two very self focused people who learn nothing throughout the entire experience.
It took some great acting to make me despise them both as much as I did.

Magnificent. Andrey is the one of the best modern directors. He did it again.

The only people who I admire in this movie are those volunteers who tried to help them find their son. The parents are both people I don't want to be like-and in fact no one should want to be like these parents!

This was better than 95 percent of the garbage Hollywood delivers.

Woman: The school says he hasn't gone in two days.
Man: You're overreacting.

The movie is not about a boy who gets lost. It's much more deep and real. It's about our life, where we fall for unlove every day

The scene where she slaps him and his reaction, without saying a word, just pure and truthful

Probably my favourite film. Such a profound message, it’s the kind of film that I dream of making.

If the film was judged humanly, not for its beauty, it would have won an Oscar, a Golden globe, and the Palme d'or.

*SPOILERS AHEAD*
The scene where Alyosha snags some tape that seems to be left-behind from a previous crime scene, then climbs out on a (dead looking) tree limb, spins it, lets it fly away into the highest branches, looks at if for a while, then leaves and goes about his day... this foreshadow his fate.
He just isn't very important to anyone. Sadly, we the viewers are the last to notice him. Neither of his parents do until well after 24 hours pass.
He wasn't neglected in terms of a need for in fact, he was very well provided-for in those areas. I think the filmmakers choose to show he was part of an upper-class society (although much of it was surface-level and tenuous). But the film doesn't' fall into the "tragedy-porn" category, casting a judgmental eye on those are lower-class or lower-income.;
Although Alyosha's neglect wasn't entirely due due to economic circumstances; there are multiple financial issue at stake. His father, as the main breadwinner, works at a company that openly discriminates against single or divorced employees. Since he is unfaithful to his wife; and is concaving a child out-of-wedlock, he is pretty concerned about optics.
There certainly is an ominous presence surrounding the boy's vulnerable isolation; it's as if his parents ere leaving him in a void where evil could creep in. I thought the sight of a man dressed in black walking a big dog towards A.(this was early in the film) was ominous. But it's hard to tell. I think perhaps that's the point. the filmmakers aren't focusing on the scary boogeyman (although there may be one) ; they're trying to tell us;... maybe our own self-centeredness is the boogeyman?
Most traces of Alyosha are stripped away during the renovation of his home & room (seemingly to be inhabited by another couple who are as shallow as
Alyosha's). The only thing left is the crime-scene tape he flung into the trees... which in itself a talisman to another forgotten victim.
Some years after their boy disappears, his mom and dad go on to repeat the same patterns they know best; neither have learned anything
Therrien lies an almost unspeakable tragedy; this child was thrown away as inconvenient trash. He was just - loveless.
In some ways, it's a fate more terrible than even the idea of death.

The actors seem to do well. I hope to see them in more movies. Especially the one who plays the son

Excellent film. Also love how wide the entire film is shot, even the close-ups.
