I love pomelos. The pith isn’t even an issue because of how easily it peels away. It’s sweet and juicy and definitely an amazing citrus.

My grandma used to make braised pomelo peel with pork. It a transitional Cantonese food and not many people know how to make it nowadays.
You can also make sweets with the peel.

Pomelo is the grandmother of all citrus. The 3 parents (naturally developed) are Pomelo, Mandarin, & Citron. Also a few types of lime, but they weren’t really bred to create new species.

Orange = Pomelo + Citron
Bitter orange = Pomelo + Mandarin
Lemon = bitter orange + citron
Grapefruit = sweet orange + Pomelo
Bergamot = bitter orange + lemon

It’s a fascinating rabbit hole to fall down

I like the texture of pomelo. The "cells" of the pulp are bigger compared to most other citrus, so it manages to be crunchy despite still bring juicy

Ways to use the whole pomelo!
-candied pomelo from the pith
-zest and dry the skin. Mix with salt. Great for adding citrus notes to any cooking.
Ms. Shi and Mr. He make some great videos on this.

-cut the pith and boil to remove the bitterness, then braise in savory dishes. Used more in Cantonese dishes.
Would recommend ChineseCookingDemystified for this way.

-don't know the name but pomelo is also used to make a medicinal candy!

Lastly, juice it! Fresh squeezed pomelo juice was my absolute favorite while living in Viet Nam. 🙌

You’re the only person I’ve seen doing cooking videos that tell people to clean the metal off after sharpening. Bravo sir 👏 👏

Love pomelos . Davao is a city in Southern Philippines .and they have the best pomelos. Traditionally, we never let the knife touch the inside of a pomelo because it causes it to be bitter. We cut the outside up to the pith and then we peel the rest with our hands and eat them by segments and they’re always sweet . I always peel pomelos I buy from Costco this way so I wouldn’t know if there’s a scientific explanation to this.

I remember working in Taiwan and buying pomelos in the street market that were bigger than my head. They were amazingly delicious.

Appreciate the shout out to pomelos. Had a tree growing up as a kind and they are abundant on those trees. Crazy to think they are so expensive.
I usually ate them with a spicy and unami dip of soy sauce, fish sauce and ground chilies.

I love them! Also, you can use the pith/peel like potpourri. Just set it in a dish and it freshens the air.

you can turn all of that pith into a really good jelly-like candy!

I just ate one last night. They’re delicious! No bitter flavor like a grapefruit. Mildly sweet. Delicious!
