Dishonorable mention: Madara

Albeit in a very sickening and insidious way, he managed to raise Obito's level from Chunin to that of crossing blades with the Fourth Hokage within a period of one to two years.

Honorable mention, Killer Bee. Yes he was there for the shortest amount of time. But responsible for the biggest growth spurt in Naruto. He taught him to let go and confront himself. He taught him how to tame and master the nine tails energy which was the deciding factor in the war. Naruto calls him Octo-pops. He was also there to smack some sense into Sasuke. Let’s more forget that he has a number of students in the Cloud village. The best non-Konoha sensei hands down.

Technically it wasn't Jiraiya who taught Naruto the sage mode, it was Ma and Pa. Naruto only used Jiraiya as a guideline on how he should train with the sage mode.

To be fair, if I remember right, Kurenai had those three because she was putting together a tracker squad. All three had great scouting and tracking potentials with their unique styles. Obviously Shino was amazing at it given how he tracked Sasuke at the end of the chunin exams. Obviously Kiba does well tracking, I mean that’s basically his biggest strength. While Hinata was trained up to be an absolutely monstrous sensor type ninja. All in all, Kurenai did an amazing job as a sensei

Asuma is too low. He taught his students about them selves, their emotions and their flaws. He knew them probably on the most personal level than any of the teachers mentioned. He also knew how to deal with their falws as was able to make them each stronger as individual but ALSO as a unit as I would also say his unit was probably the closest as friends. He can be said to be solely responsible for instilling values into his students that completely reshaped their lives. However no one beat Koro Sensei (RIP)

I would like to add the sensei for the Sand Siblings. Not that he was a particularly good sensei, but that he had a team of cruel monsters and had to raise them. He deserves respect just for being alive after training Gaara.

Baki should be on the list. Trained the Kazekage’s kids, he kept a leash on Gaara when he was his craziest and supported him when he was Kazekage. His team was the only full team to reach the end of the chunin exams and are all 3 Jonin by the beginning of Shippuden. He was a supportive but strict teacher who’s students all excelled to the tops of their field.

I would honestly put Tsunade higher. Out of the 3 people she's trained they all became important figures in Konoha

Kakashi definitely got through to Sasuke when he tied him to the tree for the lecture but what messed it up was the Sound 4 showing up RIGHT after that convo

The one thing people seem to forget about Sakura, is once the Diamond appeared on her forehead... She had access to her entire pool of Chakra. Cause during the entire series she was funneling chakra to the seal, but once it was complete she no longer had to split her focus which we saw amped her by miles...

I can't believe Asuma was so low, he's one of the only Sensei to actually focus on all of their students and taught more than just combat. Most of the other Sensei on this list straight up neglect at least one of their students while favoring another, even my boy Guy basically ignores TenTen and Neji.

Honestly really glad you picked Iruka for this list. He’s one of my favorite characters in Naruto because of the growth he had to go through just to have naruto as a student.

Im also a teacher and I think Iruka is an excellent depiction of the job as you truly love your students even when they drive you crazy

Asuma.

He was never bias.

All his students loved him.

All his students stayed loyal.

All his students took his lessons to be better people mentally instead of just powerful.

Asuma even in death was just happy to see his students being able to move passed his death and become stronger as a team.

Asuma saw his team's flaws and worked with them to use it to their advantage.

Shikamaru was lazy but smart so he reached out to him with shogi to teach leadership skills.

Chijo was a glutton with confidence issues so he rewarded him with BBQ and encouraged him even when he fails to be proud of himself for showing the grit to fight.

Ino was vein and lacked a clear ambition as to what type of ninja she wanted to be. So he told her to be the best at what she could do and trust her teammates to have her back.

Asuma wins.

Hands down

Iruka is the greatest. His speech to Naruto in the first episode is what got a lot of us hooked to the series and to this day it makes me feel some type of way whenever I rewatch the episode . And to show how powerful his speech was Naruto used it when befriending Kurama and in that moment I was again touched.

One of my favorite characters is the third hokage I’m a sucker for flawed characters and he’s a special type of flawed. He was a great teacher and a pretty good person but seemed to be hesitant when it came to a lot of things like his confrontations with orochimaru and dealing with the uchihas. He seemed to just want people to develop to their full potential and embrace each other peacefully. He was a good figure to look up to for his caring nature but was too easily swayed by others in his circle. He was just a person with a big heart that also caused him trouble since his emotions got in the way of his decision making.

I wanna see Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura try the bell test as adults.

15:55 Rocklee couldn't open till eighth gate in war arc. He makes a point of mentioning it during guy's battle with Madara. Gara specifically asks if he can, he says he can't.

I was honestly expecting iruka sensei was going to be number 1. Sure, he just teaches kids the basics but he teaches kids one most would say is the most important stages in development. None of his students have anything bad to say about him, and they respect him well even into adulthood. He is also probably the sole reason Naruto didn't end up like gara.

Orochimaru also trained guren, I know it's filler but her crystal style kekki genki is super underrated.
