Noa and Bea Palya Bea (Live at Müpa Budapest)

A part of the "My Silksn - Divas from around the world" series

Follow Müpa Budapest:

In her "My Silks” series, the Hungarian singer Bea Palya invites her favourite female singers to perform with her. The audience actually hears two separate performances: one from Palya, and one from her guest, whom then Palya joins to perform some songs together, bringing their silk together both symbolically and literally, with Noa the invited guest for this evening's concert.

"I've been listening to her albums for years,” said Palya, "She has a spellbinding, flowing voice, with pure intonation, a wide vocal range, exciting embellishment techniques and tinkling yet natural registers. Noa is a brilliant singer. She was born in Israel to Jewish family from Yemen, then spent her childhood and teenage years in New York, listening to singer-songwriters like Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen. But she also incorporates her roots into her music; I've heard her singing traditional songs with older Arab ladies, and she's performed some pretty snazzy Sephardi songs too. Noa respects tradition, yet creates something new. In 1994 she sang Ave Maria to Pope John Paul II at the Vatican. That concert reinforced the idea that a song can cross religious borders and be a symbol of peace and brotherhood. There have been other examples since, such as when she performed the song There Must Be Another Way alongside the Israeli Palestinian singer Mira Awad at the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. She got a mixed reception, but she took the risk. Noa is brave. She has been touring the world with her guitarist partner Gil Dor for more than 20 years, and he will also join her on the Müpa Budapest stage. Their distinctive sound has been used to create countless songs, albums, soundtracks and musicals. Noa likes to and is able to work with others. Noa is loyal. In my opinion her most exciting albums are the ones written about significant events in her own life. She makes beautiful statements with her lyrics, written in English or Hebrew. Noa's music is very personal. She lent her voice to the theme tune to the film Life is Beautiful for her homeland, while the songs she made with the guitarist Pat Metheny are also well known. Noa collaborates with world stars. And these music stars - Sting, Mercedes Sosa, Quincy Jones - all of them speak with such warmth about her that it made me feel closer to her. It's not just Noa's throat that opens up, but her heart too.”

Ott voltam, láttam, csodálatos volt! A koncert felvételének tulajdonosa a MÜPA. A királyi tv néha közvetít felvételről koncerteket, ezt 3 éve hiába várom.

Gorgeous! Well pronounced Hebrew, so thumbs up to Bea Palya. One of the greatest musical compositions to come from Israel. Noa and Gil created lots of magical moments.
