For people like me who are self preparing and this is the first attempt, it feels assuring to see that other people who have cleared the prelims/ mains read the same way we do 😂. Otherwise there is always a confusion that maybe they are doing something different. I have read the spectrum just the way you mentioned. Historical underpinnings from laxmikant and other things from spectrum.

And will push myself and check if i can read it in 7 days
( issue : i have read it last year yet revison appears to be re-reading.)

Read it 7 times still have an accuracy of just 50 %.
Then reffered to bipin chandra (1 read)and now i am able to score around 90%. Its in sequence and is in a story format. That makes it easy to understand.
