been a gardener since i was a baby .. my parents were the star children of Mother Earth News, ... the best way to see the new plants in the ground is to make sure that you give each a little well of water amd some low fertilizer or compost .. plop them in and cover .. they will not get the shock value of just putting them in the ground and they may last longer than a week .. congrats kids .. I am happy that you both decided that cementing the deal was the way to your future .. no pun .. xo from Canada

Sod has TO BE WATERED EVERY DAY for the first few weeks until the roots grow down into the preexisting soil. It is not really about your fertilizer.

Things are looking GOOD there! Don't worry about the dead lawn, after the tent is removed, you can sprinkle grass seed into it and water it and it'll come back good as new! The old sod will give the grass seed a place to grow without the birds eating it or the rain washing it away. I saw my neighbor do this to his dead lawn after he moved in, you should SEE IT NOW!
